COME TASTE, TALK, ENJOY AND LOOK AT HET VIJFDE CAISSON

In addition to a museum visit, guests of young and old can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner here. Our chef makes delicious homemade sandwiches, soups and salads from authentic local products. The brasserie has a sunny terrace adjacent to the beautiful Kreken area of Ouwerkerk. We work with a team of volunteers. This makes Het Vijfde Caisson so much more than a restaurant, it is a special meeting place where everyone is welcome.

A menu with a twist and local produce

Our menu consists of accessible dishes made with fresh products. We use regional products as much as possible and work together with local small businesses such as bakeries and farms. For lunch, try a ploughman’s lunch or a soup of the day. There are surprising dishes on the menu. Perhaps the Zeeland poke bowl is a selection to your taste. For an early dinner you can enjoy a good piece of meat, fresh fish or a vegetarian dish; these are also delicious dishes with their own twist.

A unique location on the Oosterschelde

The Watersnoodmuseum and adjacent Het Vijfde Caisson are located in a creek area formed after the disaster of ‘53 by tidal currents flowing in and out. It is now a beautiful recreational area with forest-lined creeks with a view of the Oosterschelde. From the museum brasserie you can see the caissons, in which the Watersnoodmuseum is located, lie in the landscape. For cyclists this is a perfect stop for a short break. There are also facilities for charging electric bicycles.

Diet and allergens

Do you have a food allergy or other dietary requirements? Please contact us in advance so that our chef can take this into account. Everyone is welcome at Het Vijfde Caisson and we are happy to provide a delicious meal to all our guests.
