The world of hydraulic engineers

Dikes, dams, and flood defenses. Terps, sewers, and bridges. What do all these things have in common? They were all conceived, designed, or constructed by hydraulic engineers.

In Caisson 3, we dive into the world of hydraulic engineers. These clever and creative individuals were often ahead of their time, addressing water-related challenges and devising solutions that sometimes took centuries to implement. How were these water engineers viewed in the past? And what about today?

The Netherlands boasts a rich history of hydraulic engineering. In The World of Hydraulic Engineers, you'll meet some of the most influential figures in this field. You'll also have the opportunity to think about the future of the Netherlands. Should we close all waterways or not? Should we adapt to the water or move to the sea? And is doing nothing also a viable solution?
