Vleeshal Collectie On Tour x Watersnoodmuseum
To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Vleeshal, ArtBase Terneuzen and Vleeshal Middelburg, together with eight art institutions in Zeeland and M HKA Antwerp, present a special exhibition project: Vleeshal Collection On Tour. For the first time, works from the Vleeshal collection are being shown at ten locations across Zeeland.

Pipilotti Rist, Grossmut begatte mich (1996)
In Pipilotti Rist’s video installation, you are immersed in a colourful underwater world. Music plays in the background. Gradually, everyday objects appear and slowly sink to the bottom of the sea. What seems peaceful at first slowly becomes unsettling.
The video installation Grossmut begatte mich was acquired by Vleeshal in Middelburg in 1996. The artist transforms the museum gallery and makes the entire space part of the artwork, placing you, the visitor, at its centre.
Pipilotti Rist at the Watersnoodmuseum
At the Watersnoodmuseum, the artwork takes on a special meaning. Rist’s underwater world is both beautiful and threatening. The story of the North Sea Flood Disaster also shows how water can be both a source of life and a dangerous force.
The installation reminds us how quickly a familiar situation can change. This connects with the stories in the museum about the power of water and the vulnerability of people.
