Waterworks Around the World

29.05
15.09

You probably already knew that the Netherlands has many waterworks. But did you also know that Dutch waterworks can be found all over the world?

Polders, dikes, dams, canals, and sluices—these are all waterworks we have developed in the Netherlands to safely manage water. For centuries, we have lived in a delta where floods and droughts are recurring challenges. We are constantly seeking ways to transform water into new land.

The knowledge we have accumulated over the years has spread across the globe. From Poland to Japan and from Brazil to Suriname, Dutch water expertise can be found worldwide. Photographer Luuk Kramer traveled to many of these countries, capturing images of waterworks that have their origins in the Netherlands.

In the exhibition "Waterworks Around the World", you can explore through Luuk Kramer’s stunning photographs how Dutch water knowledge has influenced and shaped waterworks abroad.
