Youth Route – The Story of Koos and Mina
Travel Back in Time
Koos was 5 years old during the Flood Disaster. Mina was 12. Yet both remember vividly how frightening that night was. They will guide you through their memories with real stories that happened.
During your visit to the museum, you’ll receive a booklet full of tasks. You can choose which route to follow! Once you’re done, you’ll receive a fun reward.
The route is available in Dutch, English, German, and French. Ask for the task booklet at the entrance.
Visit Janny
Along the way, you’ll pass the house where Janny lived as a child. She was 11 during the Flood and lost her first home. Afterward, she and her family were able to live in a gift house. This is a wooden house that came all the way from Denmark. You can visit this house!
The gift house in the Watersnoodmuseum looks almost the same as it did in the years after the Flood. There’s something to discover in every room. Look in cupboards, peek into pots, and listen to the radio. Everything is allowed.
The Water Keeps Coming!
Here, you’ll learn not only about the story of the Flood Disaster but also about how people in the Netherlands and around the world work day and night to keep us safe and dry! How do they do it?
Create your own polders and dikes, watch a film on an 18-meter-long screen, and play multiple games. This will teach you more about the ongoing battle against water, which is far from over.
