Watersnoodmuseum - Benjamin van Bunderen Robberechts internationale herdenking klimaatslachtoffers

Since 2023, July 15 has been officially recognized across the European Union as Remembrance Day for Climate Victims. In addition to honoring those who have died in floods and other climate disasters, we also reflect on how we can prevent such events in the future.

In July 2021, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany were hit by severe floods. More than 200 people died, and hundreds of families lost their homes.

One of the victims was 15-year-old Rosa, a close friend of Benjamin van Bunderen Robberechts. For years, he has been dedicated to improving climate policy and honoring the memory of all victims of climate disasters. Thanks to his efforts, July 15 has been officially recognized by the European Union as a day of remembrance for climate victims. Through his work, Benjamin hopes to remind people that climate change has serious consequences for everyone.

"We often focus too much on statistics or numbers when talking about the climate crisis, but it’s really about people."
Benjamin van Bunderen Robberechts
