Unveiling of the Artwork 'The Pier'
On Friday, May 3, we will unveil a new piece of art. It carries a powerful message and will be displayed on the grounds of the Flood Museum.
‘The Pier’ was designed by architect Rick Abelen and made possible by the Foundation Friends of the Flood Museum. The artwork is made of scaffold tubes and features a seating area at a height of 1.5 meters.
Set in a landscape still marked by the scars of the 1953 Flood Disaster, ‘The Pier’ invites you to climb it. Those who do will be rewarded with a symbolic view of the dike— the boundary between safety and danger.
On one side of ‘The Pier,’ the caissons of the Flood Museum stand as a reminder of the past. On the other side, Het Vijfde Caisson represents a source of water knowledge and awareness for the future. ‘The Pier’ calls on us to understand, connect, and take action together in these times of climate change and rising sea levels.
